Welcome to Some Decent News!
Welcome to the first edition of Decent.xyz’s newsletter - Some Decent News!
We will be sending these out biweekly, sharing the latest updates about Decent, our artists, and the NFT/web3 landscape in general. We are excited to have you on this journey with us as we continue to build and grow.
Revisiting NFT Staking
While we build out new features and continue to think of ways to reshape the artist-fan relationship, we wanted to revisit our thoughts on moving the creator economy beyond patronage and optimizing the post-mint relationship with artists.
We believe the best way for artists and fans to share in value jointly created is to move beyond simply patronage. In our search for the best solution to this, we tested out NFT staking with Harrison First’s “The Garden/Against The World” release in May. Fans could purchase NFTs and stake these in exchange for $FIRST tokens.
These NFTs can be staked or unstaked at any time, and people receive 16.67 $FIRST tokens per day staked. These tokens unlock token-gated rewards and benefits. This way, benefits are only unlocked via “true fandom” (aka the length of lockup). If someone mints and flips, rather than holding onto their NFT, they are not a true fan. This structure separates reputational and financial motivations, increases accessibility and participation, and facilitates mass coordination through economic and social incentives.
Upcoming Twitter Spaces
We’ll be hosting a Twitter Spaces this Thursday 7/21 at 12 pm ET with Harrison First and Xcelencia – join us here to hear their thoughts on maximizing the post-mint relationship and discuss their recent and upcoming releases.
