NFTs: Keys to a Collaborative Future
CharmVerse and Decent team up to provide creators with a seamless collaborative community experience.
What do you think of when you hear the term NFTs? If your imagination stops at pixelated JPEGs, speculative trading, and celebrity endorsements... well, we're about to blow your mind.
The vast majority of the world is still navigating the concept of NFTs and often struggles to envision how they can be applied to their daily lives. However, the more we can provide real-life utility to these tokens, the clearer the picture becomes. NFTs are more than mere digital collectibles - they are the building blocks for the future of the internet.
More than a JPEG
NFTs, or "non-fungible tokens" are unique digital assets that are verifiable and cannot be interchanged. Think of your car; there are hundreds of versions of your car out in the world, but the one that you drive is yours. It has a verifiable identifier (VIN number) that is attached to you as its owner (via title). NFTs work the same way.
The transparent and verifiable nature of NFTs has the potential to drastically improve the ways in which we interact with the world today. CharmVerse and Decent seek to build the infrastructure for a future where NFTs are the plugins that power processes on a larger scale.
Creating the Keys to the Castle
CharmVerse is a web3 operations platform for web3 communities to effectively coordinate and collaborate with each other. In order to ensure that the right eyes have access to certain areas within these spaces, CharmVerse utilizes NFT technology. That's where Decent comes in. Decent is an all-in-one web3 web3 builder that hosts an ever-growing suite of tools, templates, and applications for creators to easily build and customize their projects - starting with the creation of NFTs.
NFTs can be used to accomplish many functions, including creating exclusive areas and unlockable content within communities. In the case of Decent and CharmVerse, we will focus on token-gating and rentable NFTs.
Token-Gating
Token-gating is the use of a token (aka NFT) as a required key to access a section of a community and is an effective way to ensure that private or exclusive content is only seen by its intended audience. Token-gating can achieve different results depending on the way that they are used; let's see what they can look like when applied IRL:
Creators
There is incentive in exclusivity; many people want what they can't have. Imagine that you're a musician building out a space for your community on CharmVerse. You have your public page consisting of your bio, tour dates, music available to listen to and buy, and more to round out your story. In order to elevate your community, you can use token-gating to create exclusive pages for premium content that is only available to fans who have minted the NFT that is needed to access them. Now, these fans are rewarded with access to things like unannounced tour dates, release dates for upcoming albums, or music that has yet to be released to the mass market.
DAOs
Earlier, we reference NFTs acting as keys. When we talk about DAOs, NFTs can also be viewed as membership badges. By holding the required NFT, you are automatically granted access to the DAO's space. But we can dive deeper! Roles can be assigned to members based on their NFT holdings, giving some DAO members access to exclusive content in the space.
Rentable NFTs
Decent's Rentables contract enables holders to earn on their NFTs without relinquishing their ownership completely by providing more flexible access to the utilities, perks, and rewards behind collectible releases. Creators can utilize Rentables for applications such as time-based services, community access passes, subscriptions, loyalty programs, and more to open up new approaches to maximizing their contract's value and add more dynamic layers to their communities.
For the same reason a homebuyer might buy a fixer-upper, collectors can tap into new purchasing motivations for their investments through Rentables. This method of NFTs much more closely mirrors how and why property rights have been important for real-world development. As we witness the unfolding of the metaverse, re-establishing property rights in web3 is a terrific foundation for future socio-economic development. Rentables offer creators and collectors a new way to monetize their web3 identity and maximize the value of their investments, one that broadens the ways that NFTs can be applied to the on-chain economy and IRL.
Building a Space for Community
Collaboration is the name of the game in web3, which is why it made perfect sense for CharmVerse and Decent to join forces to bring community organizers a seamless and dynamic space to engage with their communities.
CharmVerse's collaborative spaces can be harnessed in a number of ways to inform, engage, and unify your community. CharmVerse offers default templates upon starting a space, outlining the capabilities of the platform while lending inspiration as to how a space can be configured. One of the templates offered is the Decent Template, developed for creators to:
Host pertinent information and onboarding materials to keep the community in the know
Have meaningful and structured conversations with members using the Forum
Give members a voice to shape the future of the project with the use of Polls
Get to know their community and build meaningful relationships with features like the Member Directory
Share NFT collection stats with members using embeds like Dune Analytics
Creators can utilize Decent NFTs within their CharmVerse space to token-gate access to certain content or offer temporary access via rentable NFTs.
CharmVerse and Decent are excited to facilitate a collaborative environment for creators to not only reach their communities but provide them with a home to connect with each other. The future of web3 is bright, and we can't wait to keep building it alongside you.
