Happy Friday, Decent fam! We’ve been a little quiet this week… and for good reason. Something is brewing at Decent.xyz and we can’t wait to share what we’ve been hard at work on next week! Any guesses?
If you aren’t subscribed, please join us in our web3 weekly roundup as we cover updates from Decent, highlight incredible creator projects, and think deeper on current events in web3.
Let’s dive in!
Power to the Builders
Last year was a rocky year for crypto, but if there’s one group that prevailed, it’s the devs.
As network values fell, open-source crypto contributions from new developers grew to record highs… but how can we retain those new builders in our complex and rapidly-developing industry?
Thanks to the in-depth research and analysis from Electric Capital, we learned some key insights about open-source crypto programmers in 2022 that will help us look ahead.
61,127 first-time open-source crypto developers entered the space in 2022, an increase of nearly 13,000 more than the previous year. At its peak in June, 26,323 devs were making active contributions - a sharp contrast to a rapidly declining market. These numbers have since dropped 11%, with 95% of the losses coming from one-time or part-time contributors.
So, why are devs leaving? To put it simply: web3 is hard. Coding open-source crypto often requires knowledge of programs like Solidity, which can be time-consuming and frustrating for programmers searching for shorter turnarounds for their projects. The barrier to entry is high, and the addition a long-term return deters coders from sticking around.
How can we combat this?
At Decent, we aim to lower the barrier to entry for builders to build in web3 regardless of their coding experience. Through our SDK, builders can employ sophisticated smart contract methods with single lines of JavaScript to not only deploy web3 apps, but create their own from the ground up.
In a rapidly-changing industry with many moving parts, it’s crucial that developers have access to tools that enable them to build powerful applications and projects quicker, easier and better. The more that developers can be empowered to build and succeed, the more motivated they will be to remain to the space and contribute to our evolving world in web3. Because without them, we wouldn’t be here in the first place.

Decent DIY: Airdrop dApp
Last week we were stoked to bring CSV upload to Creator HQ - further streamlining the creator minting experience. But what about the creators who are building on their own?
Through the latest template in our low-code SDK, developers can create their own airdrop dApp for their digital collectibles! Follow along in our step-by-step video courtesy of Sweetman and on chain experiments to learn how you can recreate this application in your own build.
A Decent Discussion
In our effort to provide tools and applications for creators to bring their on-chain visions to life, we wouldn’t be anything without the input of our community.
